This is a great product & was recommended by our 14 month child's ... This is a great product & was recommended by our 14 month child's nutritionist & pediatrician being his delay in oral motor skills are holding back his weight gain.It is very easy to use as it melts in anything wet, it makes it sticky but that's fine. Our child never pushed away the food because of the duocal, & he is a picky eater 5Pricey, but if used consistently it works! My 8 month old son has been diagnosed with failure to thrive. We add 2 scoops of this to his food 2 times a day and it has helped tremendously! I would recommend atirring it up very thoroughly so there aren't little chunka of "gritty" powder. It can be used in liquids so I tried putting it in a bottle of expressed breast milk but my son wasnt having it. Lol. Works best in foods. Save receipts as insurance may cover the cost. Very pricey but no amount of money matters when it comes to helping my baby boy stay at a healthy weight! 5I don't use this all the time, but I ... I don't use this all the time, but I have a kid with sensory issues and does not eat all the time. I use intermittently to help fill in the gaps. She does not taste it at all. AND that is a blessing 5Great just too $$ for the small amount. My son was in the NICU for three months and having "Polycal" added to his formula. When we got discharged we had one can that they gave us and it ran out extremely quickly. We didn't have anymore that fast, we were totally panicking. I must have called 10 medical establishments, two of which were his former hospitals; one had never even heard of it, and the other had no suggestions for a temporary substitute. He was on it, as far as I was aware ,for intermitten hypoglycemia and also to increase calories without increasing volume. So my panick was that his sugars would drop. Didn't appear that anyone cared though. I managed to cut a batch of formula down to half the polycal normally used in the hopes of weening down, and then basically had none. During that time, I came online looking for it. No one would deliver it in anything under a week, or a store would look like they had it, but really wouldn't (Amazon, included). I even went to the Nutricia website (the people that make Polycal and Duocal), and it was frigging discontinued, they don't even make it anymore (which honestly makes me question the freshness of any of the cans website still claim to sell). I decided duocal was better than nothing, plus it had more stuff in it that seemed normal. Polycal is nasty and is literally just maltodextrin, which I personally can't even have without being very sick. I came across Duocal. Duocal is not maltodextrin and has fats, carbs, calcium, and added calories. The problem was that it is not recommended for children under 1 yr old.. :/ my baby is 4 months. I ordered it anyway bc it was better to have something that is at least kid friendly on hand just in case. As soon as I got it, I called pediatrician and asked about it. She called his Endocrinologist and GI specialists and they approved the use of the Duocal.During the week we were scrambling to get the polycal, my son was having very bad spitups. To the point of throwing up half his feeds. As soon as we started the Duocal back up, the spitups calmed down. We also begna adding oatmeal to his formula which he LOVES. Between the duocal and the oatmal he is getting almost 5 extra calories added to his feeds. He lost 5 ounces in once week last week... since then? GAINED IT ALL BACK. His pediatrician was very concerned and would have hospitalized him if he hadnt gained any weight back. We are very thankful for the duocal and while I would always recommend professional approval, my chlid is not a year old and he is able to take the duocal just fine. His pee and poop are normal. We are very happy.The one star deduction is for the price. We got MAYBE 2 weeks out of the can. $100 a month for this stuff is ridiculous. The polycal was cheaper. I understand its a different product but 35$ is a lot. The shirts I buy on this site aren't even that much. A baby carrier I just got him wasn't half that. So, they get a star taken off.Otherwise, pretty good stuff!!! 4Works! Worked well to help our preemie gain weight when supplemental formula didn't work. Baby didn't seem to mind the addition of Duocal to her bottle, so it must not affect the taste or texture of the formula. Mixes easily. It's expensive, but chances are, you won't be using so much of it that you'll be able to use it for two months or so. 5Helped put weight on a petite 9 month old asian baby :) My son is a petite baby. He was born at 37w and 4d weighing in at 5lbs and 7oz. He was gaining weight consistently during his first 4 months but after that, it was very difficult to feed him so his weight gain slowly decreased as he got older. He always had to be asleep in order for us to feed him his bottle. We started solids early but that didn t go well. It got tougher to feed him starting at 6 months. He would push the bottle away all the time. Sometimes, I d be swept with frustration and I d cry. However, after I did research and found this product, he has been gaining weight the way I was hoping for.I ordered this 1.5 weeks before his 9 month appointment and he had put on 1lb!!!!! 2 weeks prior he was teething so he had diarrhea for 2 days and lost some weight so I was so happy to see that he was finally at 15lbs and 1oz. It was an indescribable feeling knowing that your child is putting on the weight he should!!!!!I just ordered another can just so I can get him to put on some more weight. His pediatrician thinks he s normal and hitting his milestones. She says he s on the Asian curve but I see so many Asian kids chunkier than him. I know that I should be appreciative that he s healthy and happy but I just can t help feeling down on myself that im not doing a good job in helping him thrive as a mother should. I am working a regular 8-430 job with a 30 mins commute and I help at my husband s business after my regular job and don t get home until 7-8. My mother in law watches him but she has other responsibilities so she s probably not as attentive to his needs. I try my best to give him all the good high calorie foods for him on my day off (usually Sundays ).Bottom line is, I would continue to buy this again and again. 5Don t like Eh, I don t like this stuff. My two year old can taste it, and it s too much powder for only 25 calories a scoop. I could get away with adding one scoop to her food or drinks but not more or else she won t eat/drink it. But that only adds 25 calories. I won t be buying it again.That being said, there s a product called Benecalorie that I ve been using that s much better. 1.5oz liquid has over 300 calories! Hopefully that helps someone like me who has a hard time getting a little one to gain weight! 2She never complains about her food when we put this on it and she is pretty picky: ) It helped to put 6 pounds ... We use this for my elderly mother in law. She dropped down to 97 pounds. This has no taste or weird texture. Helped with my LO's weight gain within a week using only 2 scoops a day whereas I was struggling otherwise since a month previously. Having said that, sadly I couldn't continue using this for over a week because it flared up my 25 month old's reflux. I don't know what exactly in it caused it but he was cranky and fussy all the time. 4Really, a life safer in our case. We have a toddler who has had feeding issues as a baby and into becoming a toddler. We struggled to add calories to his food and this was a fantastic solution. Zero taste and mixes to any food. Your toddler won't ever know and you'll get the peace of mind that only a well fed kid will give you. 5
