Smooth as butter.Applies nicely. Used on a knife handle sanded up to 2000 grit and an axe handle up to 600. Both black walnut. Absorbs evenly. Smooth satiny finish. It does take longer to dry, but worth it in my opinion.I also sanded and refinished my favorite old framing hammer. 5Works beautifully and doesn't have/need the additives for dryingI used this on some patio furniture and it took about 1-2 days to dry between coats. It looks amazing and is not tacky or sticky at all. The instructions suggest adding chemicals to speed the drying but don't do it! We have enough toxic chemicals in our lives, it looks and works great as-is. 5A good all-natural product to protect your wood (cedar, etc.) pots and planters!Raw linseed oil takes a little longer to absorb but has no chemical driers mixed in to aide in drying faster that could affect herbs and vegetables you are planting in your cedar pot or planter. You don't want your cedar wood planters to "gray" and look old before their time? Apply this raw natural linseed oil (flaxseed oil made from flax seeds) with a paint brush to the outside of your pot, Allow to soak in for a few days, and apply another coat. This will now last for some time and reapply it when needed later on. It will provide a golden cedar color which is very attractive and warm to the cedar pots and planters for which you paid all that money! Protect your investment of time and money, it comes in quarts and even gallons! 4Furniture sealer wax-food gradeI blend the raw linseed oil with beeswax to make my own food grade wood sealer wax. About 80/20. 80 being the linseed oil.Don't use the boiled oil. 5Great for raised beds and wine barrelsI've used this on redwood raised beds I built, as well as newer oak wine barrels I cut in half. Raw linseed oil is just oil, the "boiled" linseed oil is actually cut with a drying chemical, so you should not use boiled for applications that come in contact with food. We are using both the barrels and raised beds for growing vegetables, so raw is ideal for us. It takes longer for the oil to dry (since there is no drying agent) so the surface stays tacky longer, but it does dry eventually.It does a nice job of giving the oak on the barrels a honey color, and probably preserves the metal rings some as well. The redwood just darkens a little, but so far this does do a nice job keeping the redwood from graying like it would outdoors. I suspect it would need to be reapplied every year or two. 5nice and safeusing on wooden implement handles.. it dries slowly and takes several applications with a cotton rag, but the result is worth the effort. i selected this because it doesn't have the additional chemicals that go into "boiled linseed oil" which i wouldn't like migrating into my body. 5$$$ but otherwise impossible to findI needed raw (not boiled) linseed oil for a beeswax-based formulation that I use for waterproofing. Boiled linseed oil, which has a whole bunch of drying agents doesn't work in the formulation. Raw linseed oil which takes about 6 months to dry (if ever) was impossible for me to find locally. It was much easier, faster and less aggravating for me to simply order it via Amazon. I have Prime so at least I didn't pay additional for shipping but the Prime price of this product was 2 to 3 times as much as I would've expected. It was available (elsewhere and non-Prime) online for much less, comparable to locally available boiled linseed oil, but all of those sites charged additional shipping which brought the price up to be mostly equivalent. The ridiculous cost is why I deducted one star. 4Screw Commercial Boiled Linseed Oil! This is far better!Screw Commercial Boiled Linseed Oil! This is far better!Boiled commercial boiled linseed oil tends to become very gummy and uneven when coating non-absorbent materials. This is likely due to the fast uneven drying properties of commercial boiled linseed oil. Raw linseed oil requires several hours to 12-24 hours to start drying, allowing the coats of raw oil to even-out or self-level. Raw linseed oil also allows wiping down an item, such as metal surfaces, to prevent build-up or uneven drying. If you must use the boiled linseed oil, save the boiled linseed oil for porous materials such as wood, and wear rubber gloves, etc.I'm surprised Home Depot doesn't stock raw (linseed) drying oils.PROS1) Doesn't dry as fast as boiled linseed oil, allowing a more even coating, or wiping excess after several hours compared to boiled linseed oil.2) More natural than commercial boiled linseed oils. No need for rubber gloves?3) Since raw linseed oil is a natural oil, clean-up is much easier and quicker than using commercial boiled linseed oil.CONS1) Takes a while to dry, but if coating metals, necessary for a nice sheen compared to the gummy uneven drying of boiled linseed oil. 5My first experience with linseed oil has been good.This was my first experience using raw linseed oil. The raw linseed oil work find for me because I used it in the Sonoran Desert in June. In the application I was using the linseed oil for would have taken a week or more to dry. However, in the Sonoran Desert in June with 110 plus days it dried fast enough for me. I will be buying more. 5It really works!I was searching for a way to protect a new garden bed that my husband built. I wanted linseed oil without any thinners because we are going to grow vegetables in it.As of now, I have only applied one coat to the top of the bed (see photo). I had read that pure linseed oil could take a long time to dry, but the redwood soaked it all pretty fast and it felt fairly dry the next day, not sticky at all. The next day it rained and I could see the product work. Do t hesitate to buy. It s odorless, easy to apply, nontoxic, affordable and ot works! Plus it adds a nice natural glow to the wood. 5
