For rotator cuff repair, this sling is the one. Pricey but so worth it.This is a really fantastic sling. I ordered it in advance of a second rotator cuff repair. It solves so many problems that I suffered through the first time around on my other shoulder. This sling doesn t just hang my arm s weight on the side of my neck, which after a few weeks in a sling, can feel pretty awful. This sling distributes the arm s weight between the side pillow, the waist/hips, and the opposite shoulder. It is brilliant. This sling holds the forearm and elbow in a protected padded nest. Even the thumb strap is padded.I see other reviews complaining that the straps are incredibly long, BUT they are designed to be very easily shortened. The rounded-end velcro tabs detach completely from both sides of the straps. You can then trim off the excess length from the strap and re-attach the Velcro tab. My only advice is to do this sparingly - you can always cut more off if needed.Once I got the straps trimmed and adjusted, it fit beautifully and supported the arm/shoulder as comfortably as can be imagined. 5DonJoy UltraSling IV Shoulder Support SlingThe sling was MUCH better than the one that was provided to me after the surgery. The addition of the belt under the armpit of the opposite arm is incredibly helpful. The buckle system is much easier to get on and off compared to the simple double velcro system that the provided sling has, which made a huge difference once the frequency of getting in and out of the sling increased.My only gripe with the design is that the forearm was ending up tilted more downward after a bit of wear, tilting the hand down, and making the shoulder feel a little less supported than desired. I played around with the belts to try to change the position of the forearm to be more horizontal, but all I got from doing that is more pressure from the belts all around. This created the need to continue pulling the front belt up to re-adjust the forearm position.Overall, I think it was a good purchase, definitely made a difference in comfort level, which is super important considering you're already experiencing discomfort from the surgery. The contoured foam pillow of this brace was so much better than the brick of a pillow that the supplied sling has. Saves your ribs and organs from being abused.Sleeping with it on was also comfortable. I found it to be more cushioned in general (straps, cushion, etc.), and the distributed pressure of this design saved my neck I think. I would recommend it. 4Top choice sling. Straps are absurdly long.This is the one. Just stop here and buy this sling. The spacer pillow will save your sanity if you have pain with your elbow against your side. I ordered the size dictated by their chart based on arm length. This yielded an appropriately sized sling, but, DAMN!!!, those straps are long, long, LONG. I ended up doubling, tripling, and quading them up to make them short enough. Super tempting to cut them since the velcro parts run the full length of the strap (at least the "loop" part does), but these are sewn on the end, and I don't have heavy enough sewing machine to redo the end. It worked and was comfortable (which is a LOT more than I can say about most slings). 5Really Comfortable and Easy to Use!I recently had rotator cuff surgery and I received a brace from my insurance company that was awful and the most uncomfortable. I decided to search amazon for a different brace and MY Oh MY! This brace was awesome. It is sooo..... comfortable and easy to wear all day and sleep in. My surgeon required me to wear the brace all day and sleep in it, so of course, it was important for me to have something comfortable and this brace fit the bill perfectly. I am 5'10, 147 lbs and I purchased the large because I have long arms. After playing with the fitting, I was able to adjust it to fit very comfortably. While sleeping in it, I was able to get a decent amount of sleep without discomfort. Again, I wear it all day. The straps are soft and lay nicely on the body. I especially like how the strap can go underneath the arm for even more comfort and support. While it is a little pricey for my budget, I took a chance and I am so glad I did. I highly recommend this brace if you are recovering from shoulder surgery. You will be happy. Another positive note is that this brace was about $60 cheaper than the one the insurance company provided for me and by far superior in quality, comfort and ease of use. Don't hesitate! GET IT! 5Love the comfort, dislike the sizing.Although I measured correctly for my arm there are no measurements for your chest for the shoulder strap. The arm was between 11 and 12 inches so I ordered the medium but although I'm a woman 5'7" and weigh 207 lbs the weight is mostly below my shoulders. The mediumb strap was way too big. I tightened everything as tight as possible and it was still too big. I ordered the small and I'm wearing it but the front strap from the arm to the shoulder is as tight as it can go. The rings touch each other. Very comfortable compared to the neck strap on the donjoy 3. I gave it a 4 rating only because of the strap length. These are clearly designed to men's measurements. 4THE BEST SLING I'VE EVER USED - HANDS DOWNIf you are looking at rotator cuff or shoulder surgery, this sling is indespensable! It made my life a lot better for the six weeks that I was required to wear it after surgery. I can't speak to having tried or tested other slings of late, but I have used simple-type slings that wrap around your neck. The shoulder-armpit design of this sling's support strap was a true stroke of genius by the inventor. I never really noticed it being there. I did not use the hip pad as my surgeon said that I did not need it because my bicep tendon was fine and did not require repair. I was a bit nervous about the sling securing my arm to my torso without this pad and wrap-around body strap. However the sling securely held my arm against my torso without the wrap-around strap.It is a bit confusing the first time you put it on, and I admit to using profanity while trying to figure out what appeared to be a puzzle. However, the instructions and online videos help to figure it out. After once or twice putting it on and taking it off, you get the hang of it quickly. Hooking and unhooking the two clips is easy and convenient.I did find that the strap that runs from the shoulder harness to the double clip strap was too long, but this could have been due to me not using the hip pad. I am six feet tall and measured my arm length at about 13 inches, so I bought a large. The sling portion was perfect for my arm and hand, but this front strap was way too long. I couldn't tighten it enough. Interestingly, the nurse who adjusted and fitted the sling after my surgery (when I was still under anesthesia) removed the long front strap and attached the double clip strap with its plastic loop directly to the two straps in the shoulder harness. I would never have thought of this. While I can't guarantee that your nurse will know how best to rig this sling for you, I would recommend that you take the sling to your surgery and give it to your nurse. My guess is that they all know how to rig it depending on your needs and the recommendations of your surgeon.I had to buy this myself. I don't think there's a health insurance that covers it based on what I was told. As far as I'm concerned, it was the best $114 I could have spent to assist with a comfortable and safe recovery after rotator cuff surgery. I've told everyone, including my surgeon, that this is a fantastic product! My recommendation to anyone facing rotator cuff or shoulder surgery is DON'T GO INTO SURGERY WITHOUT THIS SLING. 5Sized for a giantThis is no doubt a well constructed, and excellent design; However, size small was absolutely ridiculously oversized even with straps adjusted by my professional health care provider to smallest length. I am a petite female (5'1", 110 lbs), but still these straps are so long that even my health care assistant noted that someone twice my size would have a difficult time getting a proper fit with this. Moreover, the waist cushion is quite long and wide making it "consume" about half my torso, and making it impossible to sit with, but more seriously, the bulkiness (in combo with my petite stature) forced my shoulder out at an excessive degree actually causing pain and discomfort, so it too was useless. The real tragedy, is that of course, not returnable, so I'm out $100+ for a useless item. Shame. 1Better for neck and ulnar nerve pain; great for rotator cuff recoveryAfter rotator cuff surgery, my surgeon fitted me with the DonJoy UltraSling II/III, which was very useful. I found that sling cut into my neck and put my elbow to sleep. My surgeon said as long as I used the abduction pillow (comes with both the II/III and the IV slings) I could get this sling. The IV sling advertises that it reduces neck problems and ulnar nerve (elbow) compression. I found that true. Neck happier, elbow just fine. The strap under my arm didn't bother me at all. I liked this sling and wore it all the time, as directed by my doctor. 5For getting your hand chopped off, there's robotics. For everything else, there's this.You know, for a shoulder surgery by which the hospital got almost $50,000, you'd think that they'd send you home with a better sling than a $10 Wal-Mart special. I put up with it for the first couple of days, but my arm kept slipping out of the sling, it didn't feel like I was getting proper support at all...and there was no fancy hidden compartment to hide my iLightsabre.Enter this. Sure, I think the Empire should have gone ahead and included this as a free gift for giving their medical staff so much money, and yes, I think over $100 for some cloth is absolutely absurd, but it did exactly what it was supposed to do, and made my recovery much easier. The body pillow that goes between the sling and your stomach was perfect in terms of distance and support, and the little ball they included at the end of the arm cavity was convenient for impromptu exercises. 5This is a wonderful sling, very easy to use and well made--Please tell your designer THANK YOU!Interestingly enough, both my Physical Therapists and I ordered this sling independently--we both knew I needed to replace the one received after shoulder surgery as it tore apart in less than two weeks. Oh how I wish my surgeon had given me this sling instead! I love this sling. It is well designed, sturdy, nicely manufactured, long enough for my long arms, easy to use, holds my hand inside the sling, and is all around a wonderful product! I am fully confident my new sling will last me for two more months, by which time I will be allowed to use my shoulder again.Update: this sling never needed any modifications or repairs after two months of daily usage whenever I was up. I was exceedingly grateful for such a well designed sling.THANK YOU for making the best sling I have ever worn! It was vastly superior to the sling I was given to take into surgery with me in September 2018, in terms of craftsmanship, design, durability, size, and comfort. You have made life much easier for me! 5
