Dead on Arrival!Received these over the weekend. Tested as I do with all my probiotics by attempting a lacto-culture with milk. No growth at all over 48hrs in a controlled environment. As this strain is pretty temp sensitive when in storage I'm thinking it went over 77 degrees for an extended period before it got to me. These really need to be shipped cooled or insulated to be viable. There's also no indicator as to how long this lot was stored above the recommended temperature. I do not recommend these, as you are buying nothing but dead bacteria and some flavoring... 1CautionWhile this product has a significant effect, it is not the one I was looking for. The reuteri strains in this product have pretty incredible longevity and digestive benefits, but also increase the conversion of the amino acid l-histadine to histamine. That is not good if you have bad allergies as it can make them much worse, which is what happened to me after only a couple of doses. 4It's GREAT! I LOVE IT!OK, this is kinda' odd, but I want to share the 'good' of this product; 1st, I've read that it isn't very good as a probiotic, as it's CFU is too low. 2nd, I've tried this, using it to make homemade yogurt, the way Dr. Davis describes on the wheatbellyblog DOT com site.I think it makes GREAT yogurt, I'll buy it again.I recommend this, but ONLY for making yogurt. 5Interested in this because of the animal studies? Try it!Basically, if you're interested in this exact ProBiotic, it's probably because this strain has had some very interesting results when tested on rats --the kind of results you'd like for yourself. That's why I bought it and although I'd caution not to expect miracles, I'd also say that it seems to work. I feel better taking these and will double-up on dose if I start to feel like I'm dragging ass. Feels like I've gotten leaner and had better results in the weight room from taking this. Your results might vary, but I'd say it's worth trying if you're interested. Any quality pro-biotic will run you about this same price, if not more, and this is definitely a quality pro-biotic -- but with added benefits. 5Do you like feeling amazing?This stuff is incredible. Obviously if you are looking to buy this you have read some research or heard something of the effects of these strains. For me I think it was all true and more.I feel absolutely amazing taking this. I think it improves my mood, my relationship to myself and to others. Since I ve started taking it I ve definitely noticed I am constantly happy and in a good mood (been using for 10 months now). It really must be dumping oxytocin in my blood! My appetite is also down as well and at work I ve felt as if I was glowing.If you are interested in optimizing the effects, there are instructions for making yogurt with this exact probiotic you can try.Obviously take my review with a grain of salt, these effects have been studied to a degree, but are not 100% established in humans. Either way, I do highly recommend this product and will continue to buy it. Just remember: It s not a miracle worker and correlation does not equal causation! 5For Me, The Best Probiotic for Reducing Gut InflammationI've tried several different probiotics, some with many more bacteria strains then Biogaia Gastrus which did help in their own way but I have found after 2 weeks this product is head and shoulders above the rest in reducing inflammation.I have suffered with IBS-D since childhood. As I grew older the condition only worsened and a few years ago (I'm now in my 40's) I ended up with diverticulitis with 2 following relapses. After many rounds of long term antibiotics I then ended up with C-Diff and colitis with 4 relapses of which almost took my life.Without going into all the details, I will say due to my many gut issues I have tried many supplements. Some worked and some were just snake oil but after a lot of trial and error I have found a handful of supplements that have worked for me and I am now on the road to recovery.I started Biogaia Gastrus 3 weeks ago and I am so impressed by the results i have already reordered and have decided this probiotic will be put into my arsenal of supplements that work for me and I will continue to buy. 5If you can t say anything nice, don t say anything - unless the company persists in requesting a review.Since you keep asking...your product, Gastrus, arrives in unpleasantly crushed boxes. Fortunately, the interior bubble pack protects the actual tablets. As to their efficacy - in two months I haven t noticed any special benefit that differs from other probiotics. I m also unhappy that the tablets include that planet-destroying product, palm oil.Next month I will order L. reuteri from someone else, just to see if there s any difference, and no, I wouldn t particularly recommend BioGaia s product or shipping methods to anyone. 2Inactive culturesI suspect the cultures may have been overheated during shipping. I got this to make yogurt, but the culture did mot grow, was inactive. I made a couple attempts, being very careful to heat and cool the milk to the correct temps to activate. No luck. Expensive poor results 1Recommended by my doctorNot crazy about the added flavoring, would rather have capsules, but I am seeing GI benefits from this probiotic. I have battled a SIBO for several years. Just went through another round of treatment and doctor recommended this product for afterwards. I am having more normal movements and food intolerances are lessening. I will continue with this product. 5Dead ProbioticsI am a yogurt maker. I've got the sous vide yogurt making jam down. I was intrigued by Dr. Davis fermented "yogurt" recipe and thought I'd give it a shot. I followed the recipe exactly, using my usual mix of milk and cream. I even did my usual heating of the milk/cream mix to 185 degrees fahrenheit, then let it cool down to 100 degrees. What came out at the end was sour and nothing like yogurt - a chunky milk gone bad product that had to be thrown out. The BioGaia Gastrus tablets had no live probiotic in them. Sadly I am not willing to trust amazon with this product, and will go back to making my usual yogurt. 1
