so we love 1850 and buy black gold regularly.. So this is for both sumatran and black gold If you like dark magic etc you'll prob like these!.. We found in store.. Wayyy cheaper here!IThe black gold i bought... The sumatran is vine review of free product Black gold is a bit smoother than sumatran but both are deep bold and smoothSumatran is a tad more bitter but with a more interesting background flavourOur personal fave of the 2 is the black gold but its nice to alternate and mixing themIs quite nice..I typically dont use sugar, my husband does and we both agreed on the findings ( doesnt alwaysGo that way lol)I'll be interested in trying others.. 5Changed the bag, changed the coffee...bad move, FolgersWe have purchased the Trailblazer blend for over a year and loved it. Then in our December shipment, the design of the bags in which the coffee is packaged changed. To our horror, the coffee had changed as well. The packaging described the blend as "carmelized," which means burned and bitter. We then tried the lighter medium roast. No richness, and it too was bitter. You had a great thing going, Folgers, and why you would mess with success is beyond me. Bye.1I like it and so will you.I got a good deal on these and like it. Not my favorite, but much better than any other folgers brand products ive had yet. Impressed actually. Deep, buy no means does it have a burnt taste and not as dark as most dark roasts, but a tad more than medium in my opinion.Update 10-23-18We have fallen in love with this coffee. Continued re-orders are in the future. Ive given some to co-workers who are coffee snobs, and they were just as impresses as I was. We tried this and now we dont even use the k cup side lol..This is deep and rich smooth.. If you like things like dark magic and peets you'll prob like this! 5My favorite flavor of 1850 Coffee types...I started perking and drinking 1850 coffee with the medium-dark Trailblazer roast. It was ok, and I liked it better than Starbucks or Pike Place or Peet's. I even had tried various brands of pure Sumatra beans because I prefer low acid coffee due to having GERD. Trailblazer was good and it didn't give me acid burn in my stomach.Then I found and tried Lantern Glow, the light roast 1850 alternative. I absolutely loved it and still do.Along the way I also tried Pioneer roast, the medium roast 1850. Good, but I liked Lantern Glow better. It seems more balanced and mellow to the pallet. But, if I can find a good price at Big Lots or Target, I will settle for Pioneer.Black Gold is just too intense for me. To me its taste explodes on the pallet like Talisker single malt Scot's whisky. There are more pleasing alternatives to Talisker, like Highland Park or the Famous Grouse (a blend).So my own order of preference for the 1850 choices (without the B.S. of "fruity notes, nutty after finish" and other flowery terms like that is: Lantern Glow, Pioneer, Trailblazer (pretty closely grouped), with Black Gold far in 4th place.Call me a wuss, but I'll grab for the bag of Lantern Glow every time. The caffeine is still there, but not the taste shock of a Black Gold. (Target usually carries only Pioneer and Black Gold.)1850 is becoming harder and harder to find at retail stores all over the country, so when I can't find Pioneer easily at retail for a good price, I'll buy a couple more bags of Lantern Glow from Amazon when I'm halfway through my last bag of Lantern Glow. If I don't feel like perking a whole pot, I go back to using up whatever Kava Instant coffee I have left in the house. Kava is another alternative that is fast disappearing. (Just look at how the prices for a 4 oz. jar are rocketing up on Amazon.) I feel it has been discontinued.Lastly, yes...I do perk my coffee. I use a 1960's vintage Pyrex 6 or 9 cup glass percolator depending on how fast I choose to consume it. I do my perking on a gas range cook-top. I've got things down to a science to get really great repeatable perking.Plus the perking is a happy sound, just as primitively satisfying as listening to a crackling fireplace, snug and warm during a cold winter day (sipping my Lantern Glow coffee).5Five StarsRates right with my other coffee if you like it strong and tasty.51850 Pioneer Blend Medium Roast Coffee, GroundEXCELLENT, FULL BODY, ROBUST COFFEE WITHOUT ANY ACID TASTE. If you held a leprechaun hostage and made him turn over his pot of gold, you would find it full of this. I know that when I stumble and claw my way to the holy coffee maker in the mornings and put in 1850 as my daily offering, that God himself is with me. I hear the angels singing and I pass Jesus a mug. As Benjamin Franklin would say, 1850 is proof God loves us. I like my coffee S-T-R-O-N-G and this fits the bill perfectly. This coffee isn't bitter or burnt tasting, smooth & strong. And with Amazon's 6 bags for under $30 deal, there's no way I could pass up buying in bulk! All 6 bags came with an excellent expiration date (May 2020) so thank you Folgers for such great coffee and thank you Amazon for such a great deal!5
